If you are completing your degree requirements this year, be aware that the university has several rules governing the degree completion and graduation process. That the dissertation or thesis is acceptable as presented and the oral defense is acceptable.

Once the External Examiner has been selected, no further communication regarding the student or the dissertation should occur between the External Examiner and uvicc supervisor, committee members, or student prior to the oral defense. Some of them are your responsibility. Normally the committee members and External Examiner are located on campus and no travel or postage expenses are necessary.

Contact your graduate secretary if you have questions about your department’s process. In this case, the committee shall make a written report to the Dean of Graduate Studies within 14 calendar days of the date of the oral examination outlining the reasons for this decision.
After consultation with the candidate, the maximum length of time permitted for the revision shall be set by majority vote of the committee, but shall not exceed one year from the date of the oral examination. Workshops and support There are a number of workshops to help you with your thesis preparation, writing and management. You must apply to graduate before the Graduate Admissions and Records Office can proceed with setting up your Oral Exam.
